We decided yesterday that we wanted to experience a local train destination. We imagined the experience good for us to be able to get around but also informing our guests on best path.

Downloading the app and figuring out timelines was well within the skill set. We decided to ride early as the ride would take two hours instead of three. There was a 10 minute delay in departure but it didn’t appear to impact our connecting train.

There was a brief stop in Ficulle then quickly off on another train.

The trains can be quite different in appointments, sounds and smells. The Orvieto appeared newer and probably more comfortable. The Ficulle train older and noisier.

As we do now with every activity, we prepare mentally for something not going the way we expected. So now we count blessings between steps when things go as we imagined.

We continue on witnessing the beautiful countryside, other trains and stopping briefly at stations along the way.

As we ride, the temp rises in the car. Says 76 on phone but seems warmer. We see no evidence of AC so we wonder if the windows ever get opened. We look across at our travel companions and sure enough they have opened a window. It’s good to feel some breeze but it remains a bit steamy.

We arrive at delayed time directly into station, head out and into Porto Siena. Long line of escalators to the top where you enter the city.

After lunch we return to station via taxi. Great choice in the heat. This train is much more crowded so now we sit face to face. Hopefully someone opens a window.

Cell service can be spotty to expect in and out.

The first leg was warm and crowded. The second leg much improved and had AC!! So we reach our destination in Orvieto.

I think we’d give this outing an A in terms of experience and challenges. We joke wondering if it was easier or we are beginning to think like Italians.
