News from Italy, apparently the person who is in charge of the approvals for demolition and amnesty has been fired!! My first reaction, frying pan into the fire? While she was obviously the root cause of so much delay, would replacing her result in things suddenly moving or would her vacancy create more of the same. With any luck this releases the log jam, and they can move quickly on the demolition. We also get an email from the owners in New York. Apparently they have been asked to proceed with the Power of Attorney step. This is important as it means more approvals from the commune on language related to the Amnesty must have occurred.

Amnesty/Sanatoria – If the demolition should take place, there is a second lane that could also delay us. The owner must get approval for the Amnesty work and fees. It requires a power of attorney, but they live in New York so they either must fly to Italy, or they must jump thru ridiculous hurdles to get the power of attorney done.
Immigration – We continue to work with our agent. We are trying to get a letter from our investment agency that will satisfy the Italian government anti-money laundering requirements. We must show that our money has come from legit sources and that we are who we say we are. Apparently, this is a difficult thing for US banks to provide, so of course we must prove we can make it happen. Voya delivers the letter. Our agent says the letter won’t suffice. We now try with George’s but our enthusiasm is diminished. Means we cannot start immigration until after US home sale as we need to funds to sponsor.
Retirement – We both continue on track for late June end to working. It’s filled with emotions and challenging days with so much going on at work. I hope it gets easier as we near the final days.
Next visit to Italy – We are staged to fly back the last week of June and stay for 3 weeks. The main reason for the visit it to complete the purchase. As shared, the timing is on shaky ground, but we remain hopeful given the most recent updates on the firing. If purchase gets delayed, we’ll still go and stay at the house. We’ll just make it a vacation and plan some travel while we’re there.

Timeline – We are trying our best to forecast key events thru the end of the year. Here’s a look at the madness IF we can make it happen:
June 21st, end work.
June 22nd, fly to Italy for 3 weeks.
June 30th, complete purchase of house.
July 15th, return home and prep US house for sale.
July 30th, sell cars. Get short term rental car.
August, complete US house for sale. (Maybe sooner)
September, back to Italy for a couple weeks’ vacation with friends. September 16th thru October 4th.
October, back to US to closeout remaining items, including shipping anything we must have in Italy.
November, we are full time residents of Italy.
Thats it for April.

Exciting times!!
Agreed. As we get closer to last day of work it’s becoming very real.
